How Parkview Services built a brighter future for Eddie — and paved the way for inclusive housing solutions

When Eddie was at risk of losing his home of 10 years, he and his family turned to Parkview Services. The nonprofit — dedicated to creating inclusive housing solutions that promote stability, opportunity and community — had worked with Eddie as a long-time client.

As one of Washington state’s leading nonprofit affordable housing developers for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), Parkview Services got to work right away. Their innovative team proposed a creative solution: building a one-bedroom detached accessory dwelling unit (DADU) on property the nonprofit owns in North Seattle, close to Eddie’s longtime neighborhood. This would be a new pilot project for the organization, which they successfully completed with the help of a $100,000 Transformation Grant from the Kuni Foundation. Today, Eddie continues to live in his forever home, thanks to incredible work of the Parkview Services team.

Beyond transforming Eddie’s life, the new DADU also stands as a proven model for addressing the housing crisis among people with IDD. It offers a scalable, cost-effective way for individuals and families to remain in the communities they love. Building on the pilot project’s success, Parkview Services was recently awarded nearly $8 million from the Washington State Department of Commerce Housing Trust Fund to expand affordable housing opportunities for adults with IDD — including a new round of multiple DADUs currently under construction in North Seattle.

We’re honored to have provided the first-in funding to support Parkview Services’ original pilot project, which leveraged the philanthropic investment to receive millions of public dollars and develop even more inclusive housing. Many thanks to the entire Parkview Services team for their ongoing work and many more future success stories.
